On The Job (OTJ) 2013 Movie Review

I think this is the best way to start a blog that talks about movie and stuffs (but mostly movies so yeah), To make a review of some movies ! yey !

I wan't to review On the Job first because its our local filipino film, and i'm a filipino.

This is the last  real quality movie that i could get in my country, and by 'Real Quality' i mean a movie that doesn't seem produce by philippines, it almost looks like an hollywood style action thriller movie, and other words this is the last filipino movie that impress me a lot, like i mean A LOT.

So 'On the Job' is a movie directed by Erik Matti, Written by Michiko Yamamoto, Starring Piolo Pascual, Gerald Santos, Joey Marquez and Joel Torre.
The movie is about two prisoners. One is Old named Tatang (Joel Torre) and the other on is Younger named Daniel (Gerald Anderson) and they were hired to assassinate a particular victim by way of freeing them off the prison to kill and bringing them back to their cell so the job is clean you get the point and you'll start to see the conflict between a veteran hit man against neophyte on the job, but then there's this guy named Francis (Piolo Pascual) who is a good, hard working NBI agent who tries investigate the situation with help the of an veteran cop named Sgt.acosta (Joey Marquez) who doesn't seems to have a promotions going on to him despite of being old in the job. Its basically  a character parallel between tatang, daniel and Francis and Sgt.Acosta.

First the plot of this movie is surprisingly interesting, it goes away from the plot cliches that other filipino actions films usually do, like a very very predictably story line, in this movie it doesn't have that kind of predictable story. Sure the synopsis of this movie is basically the main plot of it but at some point this movie has a lot more going on in terms of characters. It makes the movie more dynamic and doesn't makes feel to be isolated into a particular plot.

In terms of the tone of this movie its Dark and Gritty, its literally dark movie, the visual itself shows it, the places, and situation. The camera sometimes are so dark and for the first time i watched i complain the darkness because i can't see through the scenes but then i realize it does really looks like in real life here in my country, Dark in some places, no lights, and i love how this movie put me inside of it and makes me feel that i'm on it.

The actions scenes, the  gun fights are realistic like i never seen this before in any other movie here at my country, it's brutal and it really works so good.  The music and the sounds of this film is its nature, its good and it helps a lot to bring an ambiance to the film.

Only thing that makes me feel bad about this movie is that one scene that shows a cliches in any other filipino films, that is like a reminder that "Hey this is movie still created by filipino" is the romantic scenes, for me doesn't really work behind the darkness of this movie but its not that long so its okay and its not a big problem at all.

The Acting in this film is not really over the top and not really low, it feels like they're act naturally in this film in the way of embracing the tone of the movie and handled very, overall a very good performance specially to Gerald Anderson who usually a guy that doesn't have a pure filipino accent despite of his character on this movie being a real Filipino bad boy, so KUDOS to MR.Gerald Anderson.

I love how all the characters in this film have a big responsibilities on the situations that is going in this movie, even those characters that at first i think they have small part expands through the whole film. Another thing that makes this film so good is there's no toleration in every characters, and the twist doesn't  implied to the whole movie plot instead it happens to a character, and i love that, its logical and it has more sense.

The movie itself i think is also a metaphor of our current Government issues, and that i just a good hit for that.

Until now i'm still surprise how good this movie is,  because i never seen any filipino blockbuster films like this and YES this is not an indie film this movie is a High budget filipino movie that is very well executed, I highly recommend this to be watch even if you're not a filipino. This movie are so interesting that makes it so so good and satisfying to watch.
